How much carrots and beans to feed dog as supplement?

Good morning, carrots welcome to F and spoil this is easy homemade dog food part three. So in part one, I told you what foods I feed my boys. In part two, I told you how much I feed them, and in this one, I’m going to tell you about the supplements that I add. Now I would love to tell you that you don’t need to add supplements, that just feed them the food and all as well, but it isn’t.

Because naturally, dogs would eat the whole animal, which is why raw feeding works so well for dogs. But I can’t do raw feeding, I just can’t bring myself to do it. So because I’m doing home cooking, they’re not getting cartilage and bones and all of that kind of stuff, and so I do need to replace the minerals that are in them.

Why Supplements are Necessary

And so I’ve been researching this for years now, um, and I’ve been messing around with different things, pulling things back, seeing how it’s gone, and where I am now is what I will do for the rest of my life because it’s really really working well, and they’re getting everything that they need. So I’m just going to go through with you the minerals and the supplements and everything else that I add to them.

This is going to seem daunting, and I really don’t want this part to put you off starting to cook for your dogs. It does seem a bit daunting, it seems a bit complicated, and I felt like that in the beginning, but now I’m into a rhythm with it, I don’t even think about it, just get on and do it.

The Results

And the dogs are doing so well, you know from watching my videos, I rescue dogs who come in such a state, and they’re all fine, look, they’re all so healthy, and they’re all so happy, and they’re all so well, and I put that massively down to what they’re being fed. Any of the supplements that I show you now, they’re all in the description, listed, if you want to go to Amazon and buy any of them.

Supplements Used

So we’re going to start with coconut oil. If you’re familiar with my channel, you know I’m always going on about this. It is so good for dogs. It just kills infection, moisturizes, it’s a real fight for them. So I give them a little spoon of that with every meal.

The next is um salmon oil. Now, when like I showed you in part one, when I’m feeding them salmon as a meal, I use frozen salmon. The reason I never use tin salmon is because it’s too oily. But the good sight to that is that it’s a good way to get salmon oil into your dogs. So I give them a spoon of that every day with their dinner.

Glucosamine, Green Lip Muscle, and Hyaluronic Acid

Now, when I looked at what vitamins and minerals are in bones and just various other nutrients that they needed, three things that I came up with that I really wanted to get into the dogs and needed to get into the dogs were glucosamine, green lip muscle,

and hyaluronic acid. You can buy them all individually and do it all individually, and I’m not saying that I never will go down that path, but for many years now, I’ve been using this You Move Joint Care. I’ve listed in the description,

it’s excellent, and like I said, I’ve messed around with it, I’ve taken them off it, putting them on it, seeing how they’ve gone, and humps over there, you know, if you know my channel, you know my dog from Korea, because his legs were in, they didn’t work when he came to USS, and when I backed off with this a bit, they got worse, and so I know that it’s doing good, which was no surprise to me, because they need those minerals that are in those things.

Turmeric

…but you and I did for years, I bought this product here, it’s a great product, I used it for years, nice and convenient, um, it’s listed in the description, and it’s just the capsules, and you can just take the powder out of the capsules and put it onto their food,

and it’s got the black pepper, you need to activate turmeric, you need two things, you need black pepper and you need a fat, and that’s where the coconut oil and the salmon comes in, it’s a fat, and that activates the active ingredient in the turmeric, without them, turmeric’s pointless, it won’t work, you also need black pepper.

Measuring Turmeric

Now, what I did was I researched it, as I always do, but another thing that I did, which might be nice to reassuring for you, is on the back of this packet, it tells you, there, look, each tablet contains 500 mg of turmeric and 5 mg of black pepper, and that’s for a 10 kg dog,

so that is how I do it, now, in a minute, I’m going to show you how I weigh things out, so it’s nice and easy, so for a 10 kilogram dog, give 500 mg of turmeric and 5 mg of black pepper, it’s basically the tiniest little pinch of black pepper, and in a minute, I’ll show you how I weigh that out.

Calcium

And then, of course, calcium, they have to have calcium, and if they’re not getting bones, they’re not getting it, so they have to have calcium, and this is how I do my calcium, so for a 10 kilogram dog, I do 666 milligrams, now, I know that sounds a bit fussy and a bit complicated, but it isn’t, because I’m going to show you how I do it, so I bought this packet of Scoops, again, they’re listed below, one of these Scoops is 500, so they all come in different sizes.

Measuring Calcium

So, for me, I just give one scoop to my little Albert, because he’s 10 kg, I give one and a half scoops to my other dogs, because they’re 15 kg, and then with the calcium, again, I use that same scoop, because with the calcium, for a 10 kilogram dog, they need 660 milligram, 666 milligram of calcium, so I give them one scoop of the 500 milligram, and then a little bit more, and then I know I roughly hit it.

Why Approximation is Okay

Now, the reason that I’m okay to say roughly hit it with the calcium is because if a dog is eating an animal, the amount of calcium they’re getting will never be exact, and so you don’t have to be 100% spot on with it, but you have to be kind of near there.

Choosing the Right Calcium Supplement

So, for a 10 kilogram dog, they need 666 milligram of calcium, there are a 100 different kinds of tablets out there that you can buy that are calcium and vitamins and supplements and this and that and this and that, and you just don’t know, they could be full of fillers, I don’t know,

the Yumove product that I’m talking about, that could be full of fillers, but all I know is that my dogs are doing really really well on it, and for how easy it is, and how cheap it is, really cheap, get yourself a bag of calcium, get yourself a scoop, and put it on top of their dinner, it’s just so easy to do it.

Conclusion

Please don’t be put off by this part of it, because I was a bit like, “Oh, I don’t know, I could be getting it wrong, what happens if I’m damaging them?” But I researched it, I researched and researched, and I got it from various different places, over and over again, how much calcium do dogs need, and that’s how much they need.

Final Thoughts

And like I said, the turmeric, and all the rest of it, so please don’t be put off by this part of it, just get into a rhythm with it, get your scoops, get your stuff, and just put it on top of their dinners, and you’ll get, you’ll probably be watching this thinking, “Yeah, I know dog food is processed, and it’s bad, I know that, and I want to home cook, but that you’ve just made it sound so complicated.” And I completely get it, but if you stick, if you just try it, and you get into a rhythm, and you’ll see how, I think the thing with it is, for lots of people that I

for lots of people that I talked to about this, they see how much itchy skin cleared up, hot spots went, behavior, they just calm down, because dog food is so full of toxins and so full of sugar and stuff like that, so that when you change, they just calm down, because of the sugar’s all gone. So I would highly recommend that you do it, and you try it, but remember, when you’re changing from a dog food to homemade, you have got to go slowly, because you got to detox your dog off the sugars.

Transitioning to Homemade Dog Food

They do some dog, some dogs, you can switch quite easily, there’s no problem, but other dogs don’t do so well, and you need to go very slowly, over a period of two or three weeks, slowly taking them off the dog food, especially if it’s hot spots and itchy skin, because that, the sugar is causing the hot spots, and so you need to go nice and slowly, to detox them off it, and then get them onto the new food.

Conclusion

And I’m pretty sure you’re not going to regret it, because I know I certainly haven’t. If you’ve got any questions about this, don’t hesitate, pop them into comments, and I will help you. Thanks for watching, I hope that you all very well, I’ll see you in the next video, bye-bye.
